Fabulous Wedding-ikat silk bags

Cambodian brides wear the sampot, a long skirt hand-woven from silk with an intricate design in ikat. Ikat is a painstaking weaving technique where the silk threads are pre-dyed to form the tribal pattern making each sampot an heirloom item.

Where the skirts have been woven, many multi-coloured silk threads remain, and to save waste these are woven into further ikat designs, giving vibrant random effects that Coral Seed’s producers fashion into on-trend shoulder bags fastened with a jewellery trim of black buffalo horn.

We combine many things to form the wedding-bag collection; the lustre of pure hand-woven silk, the tradition of the ikat weave, the sewing skills of our disabled producers, and the hand-polishing of the horn trims; and the creativity of the village artisans ensures that no two weaves are exactly the same allowing Coral Seed to bring you yet again a range where each bag is totally unique.
